Prelude

Gathering

Welcome and Opening Greeting

*  Call to Worship

         Sing to our God a new song;

         Sing to our God all the earth.

Glory to God in the highest heaven,

Peace on earth to all!

         The heavens are telling the glory of God,

         Let the earth rejoice, let trees of the forest sing for joy!

Glory to God in the highest heaven,

Peace on earth to all!  Let us worship God!

*  Opening Hymn                    Angels From the Realms of Glory                                     No. 22

*  Prayer of Confession

Lord of Christmas Peace,
we have done wrong.
We have tarnished the gift you gave freely.

We have buried you so deeply in our hearts, the world doesn’t see you.
We have not followed Christ,
we have ignored your teachings,
we have lived lives of apathy
against your love,
we have built fences and fortresses to push people away,
and we have silenced the screams of those in need.

Forgive us, we pray.
Free us from our sin,
free us from our captivity,
free us to a life lived in joy
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

*  Silent Confession

*  Assurance of Forgiveness

*  Response                       Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates (verse 3 only)                 No. 8

* Passing of the Peace

Since God has forgiven us in Christ,

let us forgive one another.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

         And also with you.

*  Affirmation

When the fullness of time came God sent his Son, his eternal wisdom, the substance of his own glory, into this world, who took the nature

of humanity from the substance of a woman, a virgin, by means of

the Holy Ghost. And so was born the “just seed of David,” the “Angel

of the great counsel of God,” the very Messiah promised, whom we

confess and acknowledge to be Emmanuel, true God and true man, two

perfect natures united and joined in one person. (from The Scots Confession)

*  Hymn                                          O Come, All Ye Faithful                                           No. 41

Please write prayer concerns on a prayer card in the pew rack; an usher will collect them.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
